A student asked, ‘What is the meaning of the coming from the west?”
Shitou answered, “Go and ask a stone pillar.”
The student said, “I’m only a student, I don’t understand.”
Shitou said, “I don’t either.”
I’m with Shitou, I don’t understand either. Another koan comes to mind. That koan invites me to hide in a stone pillar. But I still don’t understand. Do you?
