The enchantment of the world needs examples—the smell of fresh toast, the sight of a little finch hanging off a seeding thistle, the gumboot dance invented by the miners of South Africa under the oppression of apartheid, the sound of mahjong counters heard outside a darkened warehouse in which secret gambling is happening when everyone else has left for the night, the sound of halyards slapping against metal masts in the harbor, and of a sea lion hauling itself up on a slip, the sound of the owl in darkest part of night; in a time of fear, the eyes of the baby looking back.
In each moment the universe is taking us in, demonstrating itself for us—a great artist constantly manifesting being, all for us.
We too have a part in this.
