Freely my gaze follows the tracks of the flying birds
There is something free and relaxed in the core of life; no matter how much our circumstances press on us, the birds fly and we fly with them, the birds sing and in our hearts we sing.
In The Blue Cliff Record, the poet says:
Placidly walking along,
I extinguish the sound of the flowing stream.
Freely I follow the tracks of the flying birds,
the grasses grow thick,
the mists overhang.

Meditation is not a task with a known goal. It’s something you can’t do wrong, a chance for the things of this world to come towards you and to meet you, for doors to open by themselves, and for us to see where the ancient paths lead.
