SUNDAY ZEN: The Red Thread – with Guest Host Tess Beasley

March 26, 2023 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Free – $10

The red thread is a famous image in Zen. Buddha said that the passions, especially desire is the source of suffering—a monastic attitude. The Zen attitude though is that we can’t abandon the world and must find ways to live in it.

The Zen koan goes,

Why can’t accomplished Bodhisattvas and saints sever the red thread?

In Zen we have to come to terms with passion, desire, being permeable to life, having life and letting life have you. All of compassion and tenderness come from the red thread.

Join us!  —Tess Beasley

Meditation is not a task with a known goal. It’s something you can’t do wrong, a chance for the things of this world to come towards you and to meet you, for doors to open by themselves, and for us to see where the ancient paths lead.

Waking up is something we do together, in the online temple on Sunday. We love it when you join us.

—John Tarrant Roshi and all of us at PZI
