SUNDAY ZEN: Things I Thought I Knew with Guest Host Jesse Cardin & Co

May 7, 2023 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Free – $10

Jesse Cardin is guest host today. (John Tarrant is away.)

Dizang asked Fayan, “Where are you going from here?”
Fayan said, “I’m on pilgrimage.”
“What sort of thing is pilgrimage?”
“I don’t know.”
“Not knowing is most intimate.”
Fayan suddenly had a great awakening.

—PZI Miscellaneous Koans Case 62 & Book of Serenity Case 20

Here in the rainforest, ‘ohi’a lehua blossoms cut through the mist like tiny red shouts. Kalij pheasants rustle and mingle among bright green stalks of ginger.

What a strange and wild ride it’s been, returning to Hawai’i after all these years. So many unanticipated barriers and also problems that never came to be. Perhaps the strangest thing has been my sudden inexplicable interest in things I never cared about before: gardening, weaving straw mats, trying unknown foods at the farmer’s market.

Remarkable things can happen when we make ourselves available to life. The old and worn becomes fresh and new. Turtles, stars, and the whole great earth rise to meet us.

—Jesse Cardin

Waking up is something we do together, in the online temple on Sunday.

We love it when you join us.

Meditation is not a task with a known goal. It’s something you can’t do wrong, a chance for the things of this world to come towards you and to meet you, for doors to open by themselves, and for us to see where the ancient paths lead.

—John Tarrant, Jesse Cardin, and all of us at PZI

Registration is FREE or you may elect to donate $10.
