SUNDAY ZEN: Knowing the Heart-Mind at Peace with Guest Host Tess Beasley & Friends

A verse in the Gateless Gate Collection says:
Better than knowing the body is knowing the heart-mind at peace;
when the mind is realized, the body is no longer anxious.
When body and mind are fully realized, the saintly hermit has no wish to become a noble.
Forget the big arguments with reality, it’s the little things that accumulate strife and unrest: egregiously long lines, blaring radios, misbehaving weather, nights of fitful sleep or illness or loneliness.
It’s easy to imagine peace as some kind of respite from the onslaughts, or some capacity to remain unperturbed amidst the mess; but real peace appears only when we realize it has little to do with circumstance and everything to do with our willingness to embrace the life we have.
The particular difficulties, gifts, and ancestors that arrive in our lives are no mistake, and each holds a piece of our freedom. To bring ourselves to meditation is to open a door and receive them, and to be less sure about the nature of our quest.
Join us for meditation, music, and conversation with friends.
—Tess Beasley
Waking up is something we do together, in the online temple on Sunday. We love it when you join us.
Meditation is not a task with a known goal. It’s something you can’t do wrong, a chance for the things of this world to come towards you and to meet you, for doors to open by themselves, and for us to see where the ancient paths lead.
