What the women say

She said,  a surge rises from my belly

fierce promise no longer held inside

a surge rises from my belly

She said,  the stone woman gives birth

wild hunger

a weasel in her arms

the stone woman gives birth

She said,  this is the deepest thing

she weaves alone

dyed carnelian at her feet

this is the deepest thing

She said,  our lives are brief shards

invisible hands

raven mixes clouds

our lives are brief shards

She said,  I want to be a verb

names she has worn

rattle in the drawer

under her mother’s rhinestones

I want to be a verb

She said,  the bear carried a dream

it came because of the bees

ancestors were heard

the bear carried a dream

She said, the women sing to each other

when one woman

goes missing

the great umbilical cord bleeds

the women sing to each other

She said,  the snake reaches to meet the moon

awake on the bare ground

she breathes her vow

the snake reaches to meet the moon

She said,  I can ride my horse all day …..

when this burden    I lay down
