Hello Friends,
It has been a momentous year. We are holding the Dharma for everyone, we are showing a path through the dark.
It’s a grand thing to have and to offer a path.
First of all, we have olives.
Little Poem for Autumn
A cold night. As the day left and the sheep, grazing nearby
in the shadow, grew invisible, I kept reaching and picking olives
till I was doing it by feel.
Picking olives in
the moonlight, birds up late too;
black against the sinking light.
It’s good to welcome small things; they accompany us so that we are not alone.
I’ve been noticing the beauty of corners that give shape to a room, a door, a floor.
I lie down and, falling asleep, feel the immense life and kindness of the earth.
I watch quail come bobbing through an archway at sunrise, “Wait for me, wait for me!” And I say, “I will!”
Thank you for your company, too, this year. It sustains me and everyone who teaches, and actually, all of us.
