Refuge Changes You

Description

Refuge is a path that opens a way toward life and awakening. Life is paradoxical, and with refuge a new responsiveness emerges, which introduces more freedom into any given situation—it prompts a response that accords with all things. John and Tess discuss the nature of refuge, origin of rakusus, Zen names and more.

Summary

Refuge is a path that opens a way toward life and awakening. It’s also a vessel of companions and rituals, a container for change. We take refuge in the numinous and the teachers hand that on.

With refuge, we say we are IN—fully ‘in’ the life we have. Resistances to taking refuge are interesting, and so is a desperate need for refuge and to wear the rakusu as a badge or solution.

But refuge only widens what is possible. Life is paradoxical, and resting in uncertainty is its mandate.

With refuge, a new responsiveness emerges, which introduces more freedom into any given situation—it prompts a response that accords with all things.

Taking refuge requires that you stay in the vessel of the vows and enter each situation empty-handed, without ideas or strategies. More actual reality can reach you and more of you can respond.

John and Tess discuss the nature of refuge, origin of rakusus, Zen names and more.
