Lingzhao's Blades of Grass
KOAN:
Layman Pang was meditating when he suddenly cried out, “It’s difficult, difficult, difficult! And I’ve put ten coats of linseed oil on this platform, too!”
His wife said, “It’s easy, easy, easy! Just turn your eye to the floor, lower your feet to it, and be on your way!”
Their daughter Lingzhao said, “It’s neither hard nor easy! The mind of the old teachers is in every blade of grass!”
—The Recorded Sayings of Layman Pang
