The golden duck vanishes into the golden brocade,

with a country song the drunk comes home from the woods,

only the young beauty knows about her love affair.

~ Yuanwu Keqin, on awakening to the richness of his life

Awakening, for Yuanwu, and for all of us, is a matter of coming to appreciate that life is ~ in this very moment ~ redolent with a golden richness.

We too easily forget our joy in life. But with practice, change is possible, and acrid can become sweet, bitter can become kind.

Together, let’s learn to plunge into summer, singing drunken country songs, knowing young beauties in love, and assessing the value of golden ducks.

This is the season of joy.
