Featured Koan: Zhaozhou's Great Way Is Not Difficult - Blue Cliff Record Case 2

Xiangyan was once asked by a monastic, "What is the Way?"
Xiangyan said, "A dragon singing in a withered tree."
The monastic said, "What does it mean?"
Xiangyan said, "Eyeballs in a skull."
Later, another monastic asked Shishuang Chuyuan, "What is a dragon singing in a dead tree?"
Shishuang said, "It still has joy."

Summer Dreams – A Meditation Series with John Tarrant: Butterflies and Fireflies, Everything Advances and Meets You

Free – $10

Reveries, meditations, unlooked-for gifts, gates opening; not having to know who we are.

Summer is dreams inside dreams, wandering and wondering. There are also music and fires, feasting, dozing and dancing, rivers, waves, and a cool breeze in the summer palace. There are green glades where love appears. Sometimes we hear dragons murmuring. The trees, without words, make a path. Butterflies immediately go that way.

Meditation is not a task with a known goal. It’s something you can’t do wrong, a chance for the things of this world to come towards you and to meet you, for doors to open by themselves, and for us to see where the ancient paths lead. Silence fills the lake and silence fills the boat where we sit, meditating under summer skies.

—John Tarrant
