Featured Koan: Zhaozhou's Great Way Is Not Difficult - Blue Cliff Record Case 2

Xiangyan was once asked by a monastic, "What is the Way?"
Xiangyan said, "A dragon singing in a withered tree."
The monastic said, "What does it mean?"
Xiangyan said, "Eyeballs in a skull."
Later, another monastic asked Shishuang Chuyuan, "What is a dragon singing in a dead tree?"
Shishuang said, "It still has joy."

This very place is the Lotus Land,
This very body the Buddha.

—Hakuin Ekaku, Song in Praise of Meditation

Several years ago I found a jewel inside my own neighborhood, a 110-year old Buddhist temple, ministered by a lay priest. He is Henry Adams, Sensei, and we have become friends. Adams Sensei was raised the son of a suburban Minneapolis police officer, studied Zen in both Japan and the US, and finally became a Pure Land School (Jodo Shinshu) priest in San Mateo and San Francisco.

This Monday evening, Henry Adams Sensei will be our guest. We hope to have a far-ranging conversation through the lens of the Buddhist Three Treasures: Awakening, Teachings, and Community.

Please join us on Monday night for sharing and learning about our greater Buddhist community. All are welcome. Register to participate.
